Laboratory Technician
The Laboratory Technician is responsible for day-to-day operations in a biohydrometallurgy laboratory supporting a team of 5–7 researchers.
About Brokkr
Brokkr is a Burnaby, BC–based start-up developing nature-based, lower-impact solutions for metal extraction as an alternative to conventional mineral processing. We are a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers working across mineral processing, microbiology, biochemistry, and mine engineering to bring these technologies to industrial scale.
What you will do
- Support experimental setup and execution for R&D activities
- Prepare reagents, media, and standards; maintain microbial cultures
- Maintain accurate records and support reporting
- Maintain laboratory facilities, equipment, and inventories
- Manage consumables, reagents, and procurement (ordering, receiving, vendor coordination)
- Ensure compliance with GLP, SOPs, and safety procedures
- Support lab and field deployment activities
- Manage data archives and documentation
- Handle laboratory waste in line with regulatory requirements
- Support OHS compliance, including inspections and safety documentation
Who you are
- Technical diploma or BSc in biology, chemistry, or related field
- 1–3 years of laboratory experience
- Familiar with GLP, WHMIS, SDS, and standard lab safety practices
- Strong organisational, time management, and communication skills
- Detail-oriented with solid problem-solving and troubleshooting ability
- Comfortable with standard computer tools
Nice to have
- Experience with lab procurement and vendor coordination
- Familiarity with hazardous/biological waste handling and WorkSafeBC requirements
Compensation
- $45,000 – $55,000 CAD per year, paid semi-monthly
- 15 days paid time off per year
This position may be eligible for wage subsidy funding through BioTalent Canada's Career Starter Program.
