Head of Engineering
Brokkr designs innovative low-energy, low-waste process routes that aim to unlock some of the most important critical-mineral and downstream product opportunities of this decade. As Head of Engineering, you will be the person who turns that ambition into real flowsheets, pilots, and plant-ready designs.
Why this role is exciting
You won't be "just another engineer" in a big organization. You will own the full process picture for flagship projects: from lab concepts to pilot plants to designs that funders and partners bet on. Your decisions will shape which projects move, how fast they progress, and how Brokkr shows up in the market — and you'll often be asked to find simple, clever routes where standard flowsheets fail.
What you'll do
- Lead the design of complete process routes, combining bio-based steps, hydrometallurgy, separations, and refining in ways that are both practical and inventive.
- Come up with and test alternative flowsheet options when standard approaches are too expensive, risky, or hard to permit.
- Plan and run pilot/demo programs that prove performance under real-world conditions.
- Build and challenge mass and energy balances and other key models that sit behind major decisions.
- Provide clear, decision-ready technical inputs for cost and economics studies and project screens.
- Grow and coach a small, sharp team of process engineers, pilot engineers, and technicians.
- Work directly with external partners and firms to move designs from paper to steel.
- Represent Brokkr's process vision in discussions with partners, investors, and customers.
What you bring
- Degree in chemical, metallurgical, minerals, or process engineering; advanced degree welcome but not required.
- Roughly 10+ years in hydromet, bioprocess, or similar process industries, with strong pilot and scale-up experience.
- Proven ownership of process design work (PFDs/P&IDs, design criteria, operating windows).
- A creative streak: you like exploring different process options, simplifying complex routes, and finding new ways to cut energy, reagents, or waste.
- Strong quantitative skills and comfort with modeling and trade-off analysis.
- Experience working with EPCM firms, plant teams, or similar partners.
- A builder's mindset: you like taking responsibility, moving fast, and making progress visible.
Compensation
- $110,000 – $130,000+ CAD per year dependent on experience, paid semi-monthly
